My Running Background

Hi, I'm Becky (she/her) - I started running in my early 20s with the goal of finishing a half marathon. That race was a challenging and rewarding experience that launched my running journey. Since then, I've completed 60+ half marathon races, 8 marathons, and 100+ other distance running events on roads and trails. I have a goal to run a half or full marathon in every US state (26/50 done!) and I also enjoy doing fun events like virtual challenges, run streaks, multi-race series, and team relays.

I began as a middle-to-back-of-the-pack runner, and through years of training, eventually progressed to become competitive in my age group at local races (with a few overall podium finishes at smaller races). I plan to continue training, pursuing new goals, and (most importantly) having fun running for many more years.

I enjoy reading about training methods and writing training plans for myself and others. After several years of informally coaching some friends and family members, I decided to expand and formalize my coaching.

I became an RRCA Certified Running Coach in 2021. Now I coach adult runners from a range of backgrounds, ages, and experience levels, supporting them to pursue their goals.

My Clients

My coaching clients are recreational and competitive athletes - runners, walkers, and run/walkers - seeking guidance, support, and personalized training recommendations to help reach their goals.

Athletes I coach have accomplished various personal goals, including:

  • finishing their first race
  • trying a new distance or race format
  • running personal record times for 1-mile / 5k / 10k / half-marathon / marathon
  • winning age group and overall top finisher awards
  • completing ultramarathons
  • coming back from injury and pregnancy/postpartum
  • staying injury-free throughout a training cycle for the first time
  • getting back to distance running after a long hiatus
  • establishing a movement routine, or
  • simply learning to enjoy running.

My Coaching Philosophy

Goals are highly personal, and everyone's life circumstances are different.

I believe training plans are most beneficial when tailored to each athlete based on their individual needs, strengths, training history, schedule and other constraints. It's also important for the coach and athlete to communicate about how training is going, and to adapt and adjust the plan as needed - when training milestones are achieved, or when unexpected situations arise.

In my 15+ years of running, I've encountered setbacks, overcome injuries, and experienced changes in motivation. All of this has taught me to prioritize injury-prevention and mental health as an integral part of training. I also try to balance short- and long-term goals to support lifelong health and fitness, and continued enjoyment of running.

I collaborate with each athlete to create a custom training program that fits with their life and schedule, and to support them with guidance and accountability to pursue their goals.
